Standing on the crossroad of life, I determined to study abroad without any hesitations. It was not the desire for the life overseas, but the pursuit of professional study that aroused my idea to study abroad. I was longing for the further study abroad and wanted to enhance my understanding of the essence of information science. Due to my interest in the specialty, I was successfully enrolled in Beijing Forestry University. Through my several years’ study there, I gradually realized that not only the professional talents in information science are needed in the modern information society, but also we should conduct more in-depth researches in this field in order to apply the technology of this discipline to various industries. Meanwhile, it is certain that information science is just the developing trend in the future, which would historically change the way people used to live.. Therefore, in the process of learning this specialty, I found that it is interesting and challenging, and has enabled me to keep abreast with the latest technology all the time. Furthermore, it made me feel that this specialty has broad prospects in the future, and is valuable for me to contribute my youth into the information science.

It could be seen from the transcript that my scores on professional courses were vey general and I was not good at examinations. Those so-called examination skills were also strange to me. Instead, I emphasized more on the practical operations and the real needs of society, and expected to learn the knowledge and technology that stands at the top of the era. At that time, I acquired the latest knowledge mainly by reading a large number of English books and obtained the first-hand information by browsing online science and technology trends and participating in the professional forms, which has greatly broadened my horizon. Besides, I participated in many practical activities, in which I could use what I have learnt into practice.

In my sophomore year, just as other schoolmates were addicted to the fairy world of PC games, I began to work as a part-time technician in my spare time for the website of a small company. However, I found that it was very difficult to put the theories I learnt on class into the practical work. Thence, I collected and summarized lots of practical professional files from a series of websites and learnt the HTML language and the CSS design by myself. From the first attempt in society, I realized that I got much from difficulties rather than smooth work. On designing the information part of the website, I could not find the perfect combination between the files. However, I was not defeated by the difficulties but finally solved the problem by classifying and summarizing the files I found on the websites.

I was finally recognized by my teachers at the professional and technical level through my unremitting efforts and obtained an opportunity to participate in a developing project, in which I worked as a technical backbone to assist my teacher in developing the Iptables module under Linux. From a theoretical point of view, the development of the module could be included in the basic theories of the operating system. However, it was another challenge for me because I was not familiar with the programming of system module. Finally, I found the relevant information on the programming of system module in a book named “Module Programming”. Although I failed several times, I finally achieved the ultimate goal of the project and successfully completed it due to my bold attempts. Through this practice, I believe firmly that failure is the access to the success.

I had a dream of becoming a member in Chinese Academy of Science, a pioneer in leading the development of science and technology in China when I was just a kid. My senior year witnessed me to achieve my dream. Under the recommendation of my teacher, I got the opportunity to work with the professors in the automation department of CAS on developing the interface based on the biometric authentication technology. Although it only took me two weeks, I benefited a lot from it.. Through the exchange with the experts and professors in the laboratory and looking up a large number of books and related literatures in the library, my understanding on the interface specification of BIOAPI, the design of data structure and the concept of biometric interfaces had largely been deepened. Finally, a preliminary application interface with the laboratory is written by using C++.

My assiduity in study and careful working attitude won the appreciation of the professors in CAS. Therefore, at the last period of my undergraduate study, I was recommended by them to complete my graduation design by participating in a graduate subject of Chinese Blog Search Engine. As an assistant, I completed the access and storage of the Blog data by using C language, Perl language and mysql database. Through self-study and learning from my fellows, I finally designed a frame of the Blog Search Engine and learn many new technologies. After graduation, I accepted the offer of working on Sina website, where I was mainly responsible for the batch installation of the operating system, customization of the software package, safety configuration, smooth operation of the equipment online, as well as the test and recovery of various hardware failures. Meanwhile, I was in charge of the immediate response and disposal of the accidents and the exact maintenance of the configuration information for thousands of servers and network equipment in the whole company.

As a system engineer in Sina website, there were a lot of things to do in the aspects of the application process, operating system, network as well as hardware. We generally solve the problems by our own practical experience combining with the related professional literatures and the knowledge we have learnt. It was my curiosity that pushed me onto the road of learning new technologies and it was my strong learning ability and capability that presented me with the current achievement. I believe that standing at the crossroad of life after a few years’ further study, I will become more confident and I am full of expectation for the future.
